$20.00

Description

The Longing is the color of holy ache.

Deep twilight blues, heathered indigo, soft periwinkle, and quiet hints of plum unfold across a luminous base like evening settling over still water. Subtle tonal shifts and gentle speckles create movement and depth — a colorway that feels contemplative, steady, and full of yearning for what is not yet seen.

This is a shade for patient stitches and thoughtful projects. For seasons of waiting. For prayers whispered in the in-between. For hands that keep creating even when the answer has not yet arrived.

Part of The Winter Hymn Collection, this colorway is inspired by the song “The Longing” from the album Winter Hymn by Between Alleluia & Amen, written by Julia Morris. It reflects the quiet ache of hope — the deep desire for light, for renewal, for promises still unfolding.

Perfect for:

  • Heirloom shawls and wraps with depth and movement

  • Sweaters with soft tonal variation

  • Projects that honor seasons of waiting

  • Slow stitching and reflective knitting

Every skein is hand-dyed with care, so no two are exactly alike — just like every longing carries its own story.

🧶 Available Bases for indigo blue yarn

DK Weight — Superwash Merino Wool
The DK base takes color quickly and brightly, resulting in more vivid saturation and crisp definition. The superwash treatment offers durability and ease of care, making this option well-suited for garments and projects that will be worn often.

Fingering Weight — Non-Superwash Merino Wool
The fingering base absorbs color more softly, producing gentle transitions and a slightly more muted, luminous effect. As a non-superwash wool, this base blooms beautifully after washing and offers a traditional wool feel ideal for heirloom pieces, shawls, and slow stitching.

🎨 Color Variation & Dye Lots

Each skein is hand-dyed in small batches. While care is taken to achieve a cohesive colorway, subtle variations in tone and depth are a natural part of the hand-dyeing process and what make each skein unique.

Lighting conditions, screens, and displays may also affect how colors appear online. For the most accurate representation, please refer to images showing multiple skeins together.

For larger projects, it is recommended to purchase enough yarn from the same dye lot to complete your project. If you are combining skeins, alternating skeins every few rows will help ensure a smooth, blended transition.

The same colors are used in both bases, allowing the DK and fingering weights to coordinate seamlessly while still honoring the unique character of each fiber.

🎵 A Note on Winter Hymn

Winter Hymn is a collection of original music and hand-dyed yarns released together throughout the winter season. Each colorway corresponds to a song, inviting makers to listen, reflect, and create in rhythm with the music.

The Longing is about naming what is unfinished and waiting with it. It reflects the holy desire, the ache for God, looking for direction. It is a longing that becomes prayer.

Each skein is dyed with care, intention, and prayer, honoring both the season it represents and the hands that will bring it to life.
