Open sketchbook with a hand-drawn labyrinth, coffee mug, and stacked books in a cozy creative workspace, representing the beginning of Pink Pearl’s Via Cordis yarn collection process.

Every skein of yarn has a story.

Not just the one you will knit or crochet with it, but the one it carried long before it reached your hands. The quiet beginnings. The ideas that formed while driving down the road. The prayers, the music, the scraps of story, the color that wouldn’t leave my mind.

At Pink Pearl, color rarely begins with a dye pot.

It begins with a season.

Sometimes that season is literal, like winter or spring. Sometimes it is emotional, a time of reflection, joy, or longing. Sometimes it is a life stage, a turning point, or a gentle nudge from God that says, pay attention to this.

From there, color starts to take shape. A story unfolds. A mood settles in. Music might be written. A novella might begin. And eventually, that whisper of inspiration finds its way into fiber.

This new series, From Story to Skein, is a behind-the-scenes look at how hand-dyed yarn is made at Pink Pearl, and how each colorway is born. Over the next several weeks, as I prepare the Via Cordis collection, I’ll be sharing the real journey behind the yarn. The dreaming, the experimenting, the dye days, the surprises, and the quiet moments of joy when everything finally clicks.

Because before a skein becomes part of your story, it has already lived through one of mine.

And I cannot wait to share that with you.

Walking the Process Together

This series is more than a look back. It’s a look ahead.

Over the next several weeks, here at the Maker’s Table, I’ll be sharing how this process unfolds in real time as we create the Via Cordis collection at Pink Pearl. From the earliest story threads to the final dyed skeins, you’ll get to see how a collection slowly takes shape through prayer, planning, experimenting, and plenty of learning along the way.

Some posts will reflect on the heart behind the work. Others will show the hands-on steps as color moves from idea to fiber. My hope is that by the end, you’ll not only see how hand-dyed yarn is made, but feel more connected to the story it carries.

Because Via Cordis is not just a collection. It’s a journey. And I’m so glad you’re walking it with me.
